Think Tank Session

In the afternoon, we will host a diagnostic session to explore ways to improve and elevate the role of female farmers within sustainable food systems. This interactive session will be crucial in identifying actionable strategies to empower women and transform the agricultural landscape.

Kenya, despite its rapidly expanding economy, continues to face significant challenges in food security. Ranked 90 out of 125 in the 2023 Global Hunger Index (GHI), the country saw over 14.8 million Kenyans experience severe food insecurity in 2021/2022 (FAO 2023). Efforts to address food insecurity often overlook the critical role of women, who are pivotal in agricultural transformation. This summit aims to amplify the female voice in these conversations, define clear roles within the food system, and push for intentional policies that support women’s contributions to sustainable agriculture.

The outcomes of the summit will be compiled into a draft policy document to be submitted to Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja, Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture.
